Streaming Recommendations for April

I love being the person my friends contact when they need streaming recommendations. I decided to bring some of those suggestions to a new monthly series where I recommend series and films on the various streaming apps to watch. I am trying to include multiple genres so I can hit all different tastes and moods. My hope is that I can spotlight new titles, as well as some previous releases that you may not have seen before!

Margo’s Got Money Troubles (2026 series)

This 8-episode series is a funny, entertaining, heartfelt dramedy that features an all-star cast of Michelle Pfeiffer, Nicole Kidman, Elle Fanning, and Nick Offerman. Based on a book, it focuses on Margo (Elle Fanning) as she tries to make ends meet after unexpectedly getting pregnant. She turns to OnlyFans, using it as a creative outlet while also getting money on the side. What some see as shameful, Margo sees as a ticket out… she only wishes her mother would see it the same way. More than just the story, this series is a lesson on acting from some of the best in the business, and I love that the theme is leaving judgment at the door.

Hacks (2026 series)

I would be lying if I told you to watch anything other than Hacks on HBO Max. Now in its fifth and final season, HACKS is easily one of the best series this decade, with phenomenal performances from Jean Smart and Hannah Einbinder, which have gotten them several Emmys between them. HACKS is one of those series that gets better and better with each season; its consistency is what makes it so great. The series follows a well-known comedienne-of-a-certain-age trying to secure her legacy as one of the best in show business. She enlists a young writer to help her material stay fresh, and it is this relationship that is the heart of the show and keeps you coming back.

Paradise (2026 series)

PARADISE is one of the best series on TV right now that I’m not sure a lot of people are watching. Now in its second season, the series follows a secret service agent who was guarding the President the night he was murdered. That is all I am going to say in my description because I don’t want to give anything away and want you to be as surprised where the show ends up as I was. Let’s just say, there is a LOT more going on than meets the eye, with serious science-fiction vibes that will remind you of shows like LOST. And the good news is all the seasons are now streaming, so you can binge to your heart’s content and won’t have to wait for any new episodes to drop.

Beef (2026 series)

BEEF is now in its second season, and it is just as wild and chaotic as its predecessor. Like WHITE LOTUS, this anthology series picks a new cast each season, with the action centering around a conflict “or beef” between characters. The first season, which has one of my favorite pilot episodes of all time, centers around a road rage incident that gets out of hand. The second seasonโ€”which features an all-star cast of Oscar Isaac, Carey Mulligan, Cailee Spaeny, and Charles Meltonโ€”is set at a high-end country club; two employees witness a marital issue between senior management and use that to blackmail for better jobs. But, of course, it doesn’t end there, setting off a war of pettiness the likes of which you’ve never seen before.

Trust Me: The False Prophet (2026 series)

For all my fellow true crime fans, this 4-part docuseries is the best for the genre I’ve seen so far this year. While this by no means is a light watch, it is a gripping, harrowing exploration of one woman’s quest to put her own safety on the line and bring down a predator. It follows a cult expert and her filmmaker husband as they go undercover in a polygamist FLDS community, pretending to be documentary filmmakers to gain the community’s trust. The couple uncovers disturbing proof that the new leader is brainwashing his followers and taking wives at younger and younger ages.

I Care A Lot (2020 film)

This film is one of my favorites to recommend because it is painfully underrated. A jet black comedy, the movie centers around a con woman that makes her money off of becoming a legal guardian for the elderly and selling their assets. Rosamund Pike knocks it out of the park as an icy, ruthless businesswoman that rocks a mean bob haircut and only cares about one thingโ€”money.

Jerry and Marge Go Large (2022 film)

Believe it or not, I first saw this movie on an airplane and was shocked by how much I enjoyed it. Based on a remarkable true story, the film follows a couple (played by Annette Bening and Bryan Cranston) who discover a loophole in the Massachusetts lottery, and use it to win millions of dollars. It is emotional, heartwarming, and the definition of a feel-good movie.

The Ballad of Wallis Island (2025 film)

Peacock is underrated when it comes to the major streamers. It is constantly cranking out great movies and series, and because it is owned by Universal you get movies released pretty soon after they were in theaters. THE BALLAD OF WALLIS ISLAND is a hidden gem from last year that came and went without a lot of fanfare. It focuses on a millionaire who pays to have his favorite duo reunite to perform for him; the only problem is the due haven’t spoken in years and have a lot of romantic baggage still lingering. The original music in the film is to die for and I love that the script is teeming with heart. I teared up multiple times watching it, and I think you will too.

Hush (2016 film)

For my horror fans, this is one of my favorite underrated recommendations because it is very creepy with such an enthralling premise. It centers around a writer who lost her hearing at a younger age. She goes to an isolated cabin in the woods to relax after one of her books was super successful. But of course, when any heroine goes to an isolated cabin, you know bad things are going to happen. And pretty soon she is being stalked by a killer, who interprets her deafness as a weakness… when it just may be her strength. The sound design in this film is phenomenal, with a great lead performance from Kate Siegel.

The Girlfriend (2025 series)

THE GIRLFRIEND was one of my most bingeable series of last year; I think I watched it all in 24 hours. This psychological thriller follows a mother (Robin Wright) who is suspicious of her son’s new girlfriend (Olivia Cook). Each episode changes perspective, so you can see the situation through both the mother and girlfriend’s eyes and decide for yourself who is in the right and who is in the wrong. No one does icy like Wright, and I loved the way she and Cook play off of each other.
