Below are my streaming recommendations for July across all of the major streaming platforms. I took a little extra time this month because I was watching an upcoming TV series to see if I thought it was worthy of a recommendation. Sadly, it was not and because it is still under embargo I can’t say what it was… yet. But I will have a review to come. As always, I have tried to include multiple genres so I can hit all different tastes and moods. My hope is that I can spotlight new titles, as well as some previous releases that you may not have seen before!
APPLE TV

Widow’s Bay (2026 series; 1 season)
The 10-episode mystery-horror series, WIDOW’S BAY, is an atmospheric exploration of a quaint, eclectic, island town that has been haunted by ghosts (literally and figuratively) since its inception. The series centers on the town’s mayor Tom (Matthew Rhys), a semi-outsider who has ties to the island but wasn’t born there. Each episode unlocks a new mystery, enhancing the audience’s understanding of the town’s history and its ensemble of… interesting… characters. Brimming with atmosphere, humor, and spookiness, it’s no surprise that the series was so beloved when it came to Emmy nominations this year, including honoring many members of the ensemble cast! I watched a majority of the episodes on a plane and embarrassed myself by screaming out loud at some of the jump scares… so maybe learn from me and watch in the comfort of your own home.

The Jinx (2015 docuseries, 2 seasons)
Of course, I was tempted to put HOUSE OF THE DRAGON on this list, but everyone knows to watch that show, right? Andrew Jareckiโs THE JINX is my favorite true crime docuseries of all time. Without getting too much into spoilers, the series follows Robert Durst, an aging multi-millionaire who has been accused of killing three people throughout his life: his wife, best friend, and neighbor. The first season explores the evidence against him (some of which is newly discovered in real-time throughout each episode). But most shockingly of all, Jarecki formed a personal relationship with Durst and gets him to appear in interviews throughout the series. Through these interviews, Durst is confronted first-hand with the damning evidence against him, which leads to one of the most exciting and shocking moments in true crime and television history. Season two, which picks up ten years later, follows the aftermath of the original series and includes interviews with friends of Durst who weren’t as willing to participate the first time around.

“Wuthering Heights” (2026 film)
โWUTHERING HEIGHTSโ is finally streaming on HBO Max! This film had me in a chokehold until the closing credits. From the romantic, red-hot chemistry between Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi, to the stunning costumes and set design, this movie is catnip for women (and donโt worry, men will like it too). Though very different from the source material, writer/director Emerald Fennell leans into the sexy, gothic atmosphere of 1800s English moors for a wind-swept tale of lust, love, and twisted revenge, set to the richly textured soundtrack from Charlie XCX.

Ready or Not (2019 film)
I picked READY OR NOT because this movie is an underrated horror film and its sequel, READY OR NOT 2, which is nearly as good as the first film, is also now available on Hulu. So you pretty much get a two-for-one! READY OR NOT is brutal, entertaining, darkly funny, and features Samara Weaving in one of my favorite scream queen roles of all time. The story follows Grace (Weaving) who has just gotten married to a wealthy magnate at his family estate. But her happy ending quickly turns into a nightmare when she realizes she is part of a sadistic cat and mouse game that goes back decades, with her life hanging in the balance. This crowd-pleaser is going to make you cheer from your sofa as you root for Grace to get revenge on the people that have wronged her… and the sequel goes even harder.

America’s Sweethearts: Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders (2026 series; 3 seasons)
The second a new season of AMERICA’S SWEETHEARTS: DALLAS COWBOY CHEERLEADERS comes out, I am sat. Now in its third year on Netflix, the series features a behind-the-scenes look at the “DCC,” particularly focused on the process of making the team and the girls staying in the good graces of coaches Kelli Finglass and Judy Trammell. The series does a fantastic job of getting audiences invested in and rooting for the members of the team, focusing on a few rookies who are trying to make the team and a few veterans who are leading by example. This season also highlighted the positive and negative impacts of social media. On one hand, social media is instrumental in finding potential members of the team, but on the other it is a tool used to put a negative spotlight on the girls and bring their confidence down. Bottom line, the show has taught me a lot about what these women dedicate to be at the top of their field and has helped enable them to get paid a more livable wage. I want to go to a Cowboys game not to see the football team play, but to see the girls prance down the field to “Thunderstruck.”

Ex-Machina (2015 film)
My favorite films, especially in the science-fiction genre, are those that stick with you for hours after you leave the theater. EX MACHINA, written and directed by Alex Garland, is one of these films. Completely original, wonderfully acted, and a head-trip like you wouldnโt believe, this movie didnโt just stick with me for hours after I left the theater, I am still thinking about it years later. It is one of my favorite “underrated” movies to recommend when people ask me for ideas.

Young Adult (2011 film)
YOUNG ADULT, written by Diablo Cody, is one of my favorite underrated movies and is definitely in my top 20 favorite movies of all time. It is cringe comedy at its best, with an Oscar-worthy performance from Charlize Theron. Mavis (Theron) is a successful young adult writer who decides to go back to her home town to relive the glory days of high school and, well, steal her high school boyfriend away from his wife and family. Did I mention Mavis is pretty unlikable and the epitome of antihero? I love that this film subverts the traditional likable female protagonist, making her kinda awful, but also someone you can’t turn away from.

The Five Star Weekend (2026 series; 1 season)
To be completely honest with you. I thought THE FIVE STAR WEEKEND was going to be a bland, light and airy snooze-fest. But because of the ensemble cast of actresses I love, I decided to give it a try. After all, you can’t go wrong with a Jennifer Garner series. Six hours later, I looked at the clock, shocked to see it read 2 AM as I was finishing the last episode. This eight-episode series is the epitome of escapist television, with dramatic twists, relatable humor, and a delicious romance that lingers in the background. I also love that women wrote and directed each episode, which I think really adds to the realistic dynamic between the women.

Project Hail Mary (2026 film)
One of the best movies of 2026 is already streaming on Prime! PROJECT HAIL MARY is everything you want in a movieโ it is entertaining, clever, funny, hopeful, and overflowing in heart. It is also a spotlight performance for Ryan Gosling, who carries the majority of the film all by himself, with nothing more than his infinite charisma. Admittedly, I was a bit surprised by just how much of a hard science fiction movie this is; having not read the book, I was expecting it to be more in the quasi-realistic sci-fi genre, similar to THE MARTIAN. But even as the film got more and more โout thereโ (literally and figuratively), I found myself getting more and more invested.

Brittany Runs a Marathon (2019 film)
This was my favorite movie of 2019 and one of the movies that has made me cry the most in theaters, not because it’s sad, but because it’s heartwarming and relatable. Based loosely on a true story, 28-year-old Brittany (Jillian Bell) decides to change her habits and get healthier. Her ultimate goal is to get in shape so she can run the New York City marathon.ย But as Brittany sets out on this transformative journey, she must confront her own insecurities, as well as the bad relationships that are negatively impacting her life.
