Below are my streaming recommendations for October across all of the major streaming platforms. This month, I leaned more into some spooky selections to get you in the mood for Halloween! However, I still left a few normal watches for those that don’t like the genre. My hope is that I can spotlight new titles, as well as some previous releases that you may not have seen before!

The Dynasty: UConn Huskies (2026 docuseries, 1 season)
THE DYNASTY is a 3-part docuseries showcasing the nearly 40-year dynasty of women’s college basketball success under the leadership of head coach Geno Auriemma. Using archival footage and interviews with some of the team’s most successful players over the years (including Paige Bueckers and Diana Taurasi), the series explores the history of the team and even more, the women and coach that got the program to where it is now.

Talk To Me (2022 film)
TALK TO ME is one of the best horror films you may not have heard of. Filmed on a shoestring budget, this Australian-made film harkens back to the sleepover days when you would say “Bloody Mary” into a mirror and see if anything happened. Only in this terrifying tale, when you hold a mysterious embalmed hand and say “Talk to me; I let you in,” you briefly become possessed by an otherworldly spirit. What starts as fun and games amongst friends quickly turns sinister and the temporary visitors are now making their presence known more frequently.

Heretic (2024 film)
HERETIC is one of my favorite horror films over the last decade. rom its cerebral script to its enigmatic lead performances from Hugh Grant, Sophie Thatcher, and Chloe East, this film is easily going to be a horror classic. The film breezes along, with suspenseful thrills and psychological manipulations hooking you from the beginning and not letting go. I wouldn’t be surprised if even after the movie ends, it sticks with you and you want to talk about its ending with whoever will listen.

Welcome To The Family (2026 docuseries, 1 season)
You know I wouldn’t leave you hanging without a monthly true crime recommendation and this month’s is WELCOME TO THE FAMILY. This four part series explores the 2014 targeted murder of Dan Markel. I won’t get too far into the details, only to say you can’t pick your family… and Dan learned that the hard way. I really like that this series goes through the recent court cases so you can see some of the more crazy elements that have happened since the story first came into popularity with the awesome podcast “Over My Dead Body.” You will be shocked at every turn.

The Diplomat (2026 series, 4 seasons)
I know THE DIPLOMAT is not a hidden gem TV series that I should be championing for more people to see. But if you haven’t started watching it yet, I highly recommend you start watching now and get caught up in time for Season 4, which may be its best season yet! This series is one of the most consistently entertaining shows, and I love that it hasn’t dipped in quality. Keri Russell, as always, is incredible and there are some exciting elements that happen this season that you won’t want to get spoiled if you take too long to watch it.

The Strangers (2008 film)
Whenever anyone asks me my favorite scary movie, my first response is always THE STRANGERS. The film has gotten a little more attention these last few years because of its sequels, but nothing beats the original. There is no movie that has ever instilled in me such a sense of dreads and uncomfortableness. Normally, I can excuse away the events of a slasher film because the motivations of the killers have nothing to do with me. But the fact that the killers in THE STRANGERS target a couple solely because they were home is chilling. I love the cinematic decision to focus on wide shots of Liv Tyler and Scott Speedman so you can see the killers moving around the house, appearing in frame without the tenants knowing. If you’ve only seen the sequels, don’t let them be your only exposure to THE STRANGERS series because it is one of the best.

Tuner (2025 film)
TUNER is one of the most underrated films I saw last year. A heist movie, hidden within a tender drama, the film centers on Niki (Leo Woodhall), a man with sensitive hearing who uses that gift to tune pianos. However, when a criminal enterprise realizes Niki’s skills may be helpful in cracking safes, his life takes a hard left turn, leaving him on the wrong side of the law.

It Follows (2015 film)
A complete throwback to 70s/80s horror, IT FOLLOWS is an extremely well-made film that is going to leave you wondering what you would do if this ever happened to you. Part supernatural horror, part psychological thriller, the film explores what happens when a deadly curse (which acts like an STD) follows you, threatening to kill you if it gets too close. The only way to get rid of the curse is to pass it to someone else. From its haunting SUSPIRIA-esque score, to its retro look and scream queen in the making (Maika Monroe), I expect you will be just as scared and delighted as I was.

Death Becomes Her (1992 film)
I doubt I need to say much about this campy comedy/horror classic. But in case you’ve been living under a rock, DEATH BECOMES HER is a hilariously over-the-top send-up of Hollywood’s obsession with youth and fame. The film follows Helen (Goldie Hawn) a novelist whose husband (Bruce Willis) leaves her for her best friend, Madeline (Meryl Streep). Years later, Helen decides to seek revenge and uses a potion to give her the greatest makeover she can muster in attempt to stick it to Madeline and get her husband back. Of course, the potion has more side effects than she anticipates and when Madeline discovers her secret, it sets them on a course for destruction.

Bodies Bodies Bodies (2022 film)
BODIES BODIES BODIES is a fun whodunnit that is going to leave you guessing (and laughing) until the very end. The film follows a group of 20-somethings who decide to have a hurricane party in a remote mansion. When the electricity goes out during the group’s party game, they are shocked to discover one of their friends has been killed. Relationships begin to unravel as the friends figure out who they can really trust and who may be the one behind the killing(s).
